April Painting Holidays France

Spring time “Plein Air” Painting

Making the most of the colours at this time of year, attendees will be working in oil watercolour and pastel outside in a selection of local beauty spots encompassing town views, woodland views and lakeside views. The oil work will be carried out in the “Alla Prima” technique – or direct painting. Attendees will be able to practice and master making key brushmarks or knife work in order to achieve the most impact and vivacity in their work.

Oil Painting Techniques

This course is intended for attendees who wish to try different styles of oil painting. The course covers Alla Prima, the Flemish technique, and palette knife work; other sub-techniques covered included glazing, scrapping back, and colour mixing. The subjects will be either still life, or photograph based, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own items or photos to create from.

Experiencing Different Media

This course is intended as an introduction to several media, charcoal, pastel, oil, gouache, acrylic and watercolour, in order to allow amateur artists to try out different techniques and media with the assistance of a tutor. The course will cover a variety of subjects as well, landscape, plein air, figure, animal, and abstract, and attendees can choose to try each different subject with a selection of materials, or concentrate on one for each.

Composing narratives in paintings

This is a combination course, intended to help artists wishing to paint narrative, or story-telling paintings, and covers collecting components of a piece; background, subjects, figures, faces or items, and creating a good general composition of the parts. Attendees will be encouraged to go out and about and collect components as sketches, and photos to integrate into their finished work, and work in a media of their choice.

Atmospheric landscapes.

This course covers landscape painting and will be based around “plein air” and studio work in oil or pastel, specifically concentrating on adding colour combinations, sky and land effects, and key points of interest to take the genre of landscape painting above and beyond the ordinary.
